The Faces Behind The Logos
We see logos everywhere!
Thankfully, because it keeps me in the job…
But here 6 commonly known logos and the faces behind them.
Did you know Salvador Dali designed the Chupa Chups logo?!
Apparently the design took the Spanish artist just an hour to complete!
Also the colours used are pretty close to the Spanish flag..
The Nike logo was designed by a student!
Carolyn Davidson was a student at Portland State when she designed the Nike logo.
Although later she was given stock that would now be worth around $640k USD originally she was only paid $35. The founder of Nike wasn’t a fan of the design originally but said “Maybe it will grow on me” – we would like to think it has!
A Bookkeeper made the ICONIC Coco-Cola logo.
Frank Mason Robinson, the bookkeeper of John Pemberton, created the Coca-Cola logo in 1885. Not only did he pick the script font but he also came up with the name!
The typeface developed in the 19th Century is called Spencerian Script and was a dominant form of handwriting in the USA at the time.
Milton Glaser Loves New York
Milton Glaser, actually a graphic designer, was inspired by “Montreal, the city with a heart”. Glaser did the work unpaid and his original sketches went on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Did you spot the arrow?!?
Walter Landauer was a brand design legend and the founder of Landor Associates mostly known for designing the FedEx logo. It was a product of a long process of creating and reviewing over 200 designs. The CEO of FedEx spotted the arrow right away, I hadn’t even noticed it after years of study!
Apple. We see it constantly!
Rob Janoff designed the original rainbow Apple logo in 1977 when he was working for the agency Regis McKenna as an art director. The only direction he got from Steve Jobs: “don’t make it cute”. Rob presented two options, one with a bite and one without, we all know which one he picked.
